Albania (Republic of Albania) is a country situated in the South East of Europe. The country covers an area of 28,748 km² and its population compromises of 3.6 million people. The official language is Albanian.

Education is compulsory for children aged 6 to 15 (primary school). There is a nationwide test at the end of secondary school leading up to the “Maturita Diploma” (Deftese Pjekurie).

An average day in primary school is organised in 45 minute blocks, typically starts at 08:00 and ends at 13:00. Grading system 10 (best) to 1 (worst) is used. Most schools make use of school uniforms. Counselling is available to students.
In General Secondary schools, the first year is a preparatory year with 14 subject covering the full range of knowledge. For the last two years, the student can choose Natural Science or Social Science Profile.

Higher education

There are 11 public and 15 private universities. 31% of students are enrolled into the Faculty of Economics at the University of Tirana.
